School of Architecture, Tsinghua University

The School of Architecture at Tsinghua University was established in 1946 by the famous Chinese architect and educator, Liang Sicheng, and was known then as the Department of Architecture. The Department of Architecture became the School of Architecture in 1988. Currently, there are four departments in the School: Architecture, Urban Planning, Landscape, and Building Science and Technology. There are also nine research institutes affiliated with the School: Architecture and Cities, Architectural Design, Architectural History and Historical Conservation, Housing and Communities, Fine Arts, Landscape and Gardening, Building Science and Technology, and the Built Environment and HVAC.

Additionally, three professional institutions are closely linked to the school, including the Tsinghua Institute of Architectural Design and Research, the Beijing Tsinghua Institute of Urban Planning and Research, and the Beijing Tsinghua Andi-Architectural Design and Consultants, Ltd., which are all qualified as Class A design practices in China , and provide intern programs for students. The School of Architecture also accommodates two joint research centers, the Tsinghua Center for Human Settlements, another joint-organization of no less than six departments or schools, and the Tsinghua Center for Energy Conservation.
